Imam Hussein (A) went to Karbala because of:
-resignation to will of Allah
-resistance to corrupt government
-reformation in corrupt society
-revolution
-he was part of the cosmic struggle between falsehood and truth

Everyone desires perfection -- some seek it in power, others in prestige, beauty, or wealth -- but the best perfection is in getting closer to the All Perfect Being. Everyone is given a chance to attain perfection.
Abbas (A), Imam Hussein's brother and his army commander, represents sacrifice of the self against individualism - he preferred Allah and his brother the Imam over himself. It was because of his self-esteem. Spending possessions in the way of Allah is an act against individualism.

Many Ahadith indicate the importance and rewards of weeping from Imam Hussein(A). and you know, for every Hadith there are 3 criteria:

1.Who narrated it.

2.In which condition it was narrated.

3.How does this correlate with the Qur'anic message.

All and all, crying and mourning of Imam Hussein alone without any deeds will not help one to attain paradise.

Questions: How did the Imam (A) gain knowledge of the unseen for certain things, when Allah alone has knowledge of all the unseens?

There are several reasons to this question:

-         God shares some knowledge with the Awliyaa'

-        Some knowledge is fixed and determined. God alone knows that. Some other knowledge is changing (for example, if someone is good to his parents, Allah will lengthen his life).

-        Imams (A) potentially had power to learn it, Allah provided the knowledge for them if it be necessary.

-        If someone is close enough to Allah he will gain such knowledge, like the essence of Allah.

What about verse in Qur'an that says you should not plunge yourself into death?

-         Death in this verse is not physical death, but rather death in society or death in other aspects.

-         Sometimes death is more important than life.
